Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Prayer

November 23, 2005

The year that is drawing towards its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

Chapter 3 Jesus and the Idea of Irresistible Influence from The Church of Irresistible Influence

November 19, 2005

“Six distinguishing characteristics of Christian Lifestyle:

  • Passionately committed to Jesus Christ (a heart for God)
  • Biblically measured (everything by the Book)
  • Morally pure (in a morally compromised age)
  • Family centered (healthy homes are priority)
  • Evangelistically bold (willing and confident in sharing one’s faith)
  • Socially responsible (the community around us is our business)”

“… the church should be and must be, at its core, a compelling force of influence - first in lifestyle, then in good works.”

“Is our community really being changed?”

“i2 - a bridge over the troubled waters between an isolated church and a cynical culture.”

What Really Counts by Dr. Stan Toussaint from Luke 16:19 - 31

November 15, 2005

Dr. Toussaint continued the Great Stories From Our Lord conference at Immanuel Baptist Church this evening with What Really Counts from Luke 16:19 - 31.
The parable contains 2 lives, 2 destinies and 2 requests.
At death, good stops for the unsaved and bad stops for the saved.
1. Lovers of money are detestable to God.
2. Submit to the Word of God.
3. Faith is a matter fo the will, not evidence.

Chapter 1 The Great Chasm from The Church of Irresistible Influence by Robert Lewis

November 6, 2005

“There are 170 million non-Christians in America (making our country the third largest mission field in the world)”

According to Rick Warren in The Purpose Drive Church, there are many who say, “If you’ll just stay doctrinally pure, preach the Word, pray more, and be dedicated, then your church will explode with growth. It sounds so simple and so spiritual, but it just isn’t true.”

George Barna’s conclusion, “In the aspects of lifestyle where Christians can have their greatest impact on the lives of non-Christians, there are no visible differences between the two segments.”

One pastor friend stated the “tried-and-true” method as, “If the 1950s ever come around again, my church will be ready”.

What impact is the church having on the community? “What we have failed to do, for the most part, is to bridge the Great Chasm.”
